Ringbrothers builds always include a healthy helping of performance to keep things lively. That often means a modern, tuned engine and the latest in tires, suspension and exhaust to squeeze out more power and acceleration. In 2019, we unveiled a car that takes performance to another level. UNKL was designed specifically for track days – capable of driving to and from the circuit but designed as a no-nonsense race car.
The ’69 Mustang Mach 1 began life as an already hardcore version of a road car. Mustangs of the era had earned a reputation as great candidates for serious track toys, so with a bit of inspiration from history we decided it would be a great canvas to build our project on. The owner also loved the platform and after being introduced to the hobby by his uncle, the name was a no-brainer.
Built into the Mustang are a few little racing secrets, including the headliner which features an outline of Elkhart Lake, also known as Road America, which is both the owner’s home track and ours! Sponsors featured in the racing livery were all part of the build and have product featured in the car you see, including the sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, custom HRE Wheels, BASF paint, Motul engine and gear oil, and Flowmaster exhaust.
Like any race car, the engine is a particular point of interest. The John Kaase 520ci Boss engine produces a healthy 700 horsepower and is mated to a reworked Bowler 6-speed Tremec transmission. Helps to have a bit of fun rowing through the gears while you pass everyone on track too.
